We are all familiar with Benjamin Franklin the inventor, the scientist, the statesman, and the founder of innumerable civic institutions. This talk will focus on how Franklin was able to put his deep understanding of human nature to work in creating characters and narratives to influence events and achieve real world outcomes in matters both global and personal.

Charles McMahon is the founder and Artistic Director of Lantern Theater Company. He has overseen the production of more than 140 plays in the Lantern’s 32 seasons. He is the director of Franklinland by Lloyd Suh, a play about Benjamin Franklin and his son William. Franklinland will be in performance May 7 – June 7, 2026. He earned his BFA in Directing from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts and graduated from Germantown Friends School in 1979.
